History of Ravencrest

In the rolling hills of Foothills County, Alberta, there’s a small and vibrant community known as Ravencrest. Located just east of Okotoks, this peaceful enclave is surrounded by natural beauty: to the west lies Highway 2, to the north the Sheep River, to the east the Highwood River, and to the south, stretches of farmland. The land, once used for agriculture, was later transformed by a former quarry operation before it became the home to a unique group of acreage owners.

Founded in 2004 by a visionary named Harvey Trimble, Ravencrest began with the idea of creating a close-knit community where residents could live in harmony with nature. The properties in Ravencrest are spacious, averaging around three acres each, giving families plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors while still being part of a larger, connected community.

One of the distinctive features of Ravencrest is its strong sense of self-sufficiency. The community is managed by a Homeowners Association, which is made up entirely of resident volunteers who work together to oversee the well-being of the neighborhood. In addition to managing the community’s affairs, residents also oversee the Ravencrest Water System (RWS), ensuring that the water supply remains clean, safe, and reliable for everyone.

Though small in population, the people of Ravencrest are united by their shared values of stewardship, volunteerism, and a deep connection to the land around them. From its founding by Harvey Trimble to its thriving present, Ravencrest remains a testament to the power of community and collaboration in maintaining a special place to call home.
